![]() Psychotherapy
All humans experience challenges from time to time that make life more difficult. Clinical counselling and psychotherapy is more than just talking about these challenges, but the process of identifying root issues in order to heal. At the BrainWave Centre for Education and Therapy we help you to identify and reach your mental health goals. We use approaches that are most suitable to your healing journey, including EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), CBT (Cognitive Behaviour Therapy), DBT (Dialectical Behaviour Therapy), art therapy, and working in attachment issues. ![]() Education

![]() Neurotherapy
Neurotherapy is an umbrella term for a variety of approaches that adjust brainwave activity and reduce or resolve brain and body symptoms. The field of neuromodulation has advanced significantly, and we can now identify phenotypes of brain activity that are associated with such issues as depression, anxiety, OCD, and PTSD. Once we have completed a brain assessment (QEEG – quantitative electroencephalograph), we search for brain patterns that may need to be modified. We then use different modalities to make these changes, including neurostimulation with lights, sounds, infrared light, electro-magnetic fields, and electrical energy. We also use neurofeedback and biofeedback in which the client learns how to make changes in brain activity without stimulation. |
ASSESSMENTS
What Happens at Our First Appointment?
We will go through the intake form together and talk about the type of issues that you are experiencing. I may ask you to complete other assessments so that I can better understand your current level of functioning.
Next, I will do an assessment of your current brain functioning (full-cap EEG to generate a Quantitative Electroencephalogram - QEEG), since some psychological issues are associated with dysfunctional brain activity or connectivity. In order to get an accurate measure, it is important that you not use any drugs or alcohol within 12 hours of our appointment. This includes coffee or tea.
If the appointment is for your child, I will need a parent/guardian at the first meeting to get a thorough medical and personal history. Parents/guardians typically are not in the room during the assessment, but can stay in the waiting room area.
Once I receive the QEEG reports, I will email these to you and set up a time to debrief the findings. Depending upon which type of assessment you choose, the next step will be to generate a report and set some goals for our work together.
Some services are available in an on-line format. Please ask me about this possibility.
